Hairpieces are a cosmetic accessory generally used by men to hide the fact that they are losing their hair. Hairpieces have been around for a long time and until the recent advent of hair restoration and transplant surgery, were the only method available to men who did not wish to be bald. They are still a popular option as they tend to be cheaper and easier than surgery.

Common reasons for men to opt for hairpieces are that they believe that if they are seen to be losing their hair they will be less attractive to women, and also discriminated against at work for appearing older. They may fear that they will be less likely to receive promotion or other advancement.
