Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplant surgery is growing in popularity as more and more men and women become used to the idea of cosmetic surgery.

Normal hair is an outgrowth of the epidermis of the skin. It begins in the hair follicle. The root of the hair expands into a bulb that anchors the hair to the skin. This bulb contains dividing cells that allow the hair to grow and remain alive. As the new cells are formed, the older ones are pushed upwards and become the hair we see outside the skin.

With hair loss this process stops. There is no longer a hair in the follicle. What hair transplant surgery does is plants a healthy hair in the empty follicle. This healthy hair will be taken from somewhere else on the body. The new hair will take root in its new location. Its bulb will create new cells that cause the hair to grow.

Hair transplant surgery does have inherent risks though, so careful consideration should be taken before you decide to opt for it.
