Chemical
Peel
A chemical peel is
a procedure that's done to improve and smooth
skin by using a chemical solution to remove
damaged outer layers of the skin to let the
fresh skin underneath rise to the surface.
Chemical peels are
especially good for people who have severe
facial blemishes, and it is also extremely
effective on wrinkles and uneven skin tone
or pigmentation. The strength of the chemical
solution used is determined by each individual
patient's needs. Some will require stronger
solutions than others. Chemical peel treatments
are perfectly safe when performed by qualified
plastic surgeons who are experienced in the
procedures. Sometimes a chemical peel is used
along with a facelift, but a chemical peel
on its own is no substitute for that type
of surgery. Chemical peels also won't slow
or prevent the aging process.
Side effects from a
chemical peel treatment may include stinging,
redness and irritation. More than one
chemical peel may be needed to get the level
of results desired, and there are some risks
in having chemical peels done. They should
only be done by qualified chemical peel professionals.
Check with your insurance provider for information
about any available chemical peel coverage.
